Divorce

About divorce.

How long does a divorce take?

Under the no-fault divorce process, an uncontested divorce typically takes 6–8 months from application to final order.

Do I need a solicitor to divorce?

No, but a solicitor will spot issues you might miss — particularly around finances, where a separate financial order is almost always advised.

How much does a divorce cost?

Our fixed-fee uncontested divorce service is £750 plus the £593 court fee.

Finances

About finances.

What is a financial consent order?

A court order that legally formalises the financial agreement reached between you and your former spouse — including pensions, property, and savings.

What is a clean break order?

A clean break order severs all future financial claims between you and your former spouse, preventing future maintenance or asset claims.

Will I have to go to court?

Most financial matters are resolved without a court hearing — through negotiation or mediation. Court is a last resort.

Children

About children.

What is a Child Arrangements Order?

A court order setting out who a child lives with and spends time with — used when parents cannot agree.

What is CAFCASS?

The Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service — independent professionals who advise the court on what is in a child’s best interests.

Do we have to go to mediation?

You must attend a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM) before applying to court for most family matters.
